If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, it is likely that you enjoy watching the best drivers in the world compete in their respective motorsports. Whether it is Formula One or races which involve just two wheels, the skill involved has to be admired.
We have put together a list of what we believe are four of the best races in motorsport and a look at what makes them so special.
Indianapolis 500
The Indianapolis 500, or Indy 500, as it is more commonly known, is the highlight on the Indy calendar. An Indy car, for those who aren’t familiar, is an open-wheel car with an open-cockpit.
As the name suggests, the distance of the race is 500 miles around an oval-shaped track. This equates to 200 laps of the circuit. Around 300,000 spectators attend the race, which takes place on Memorial Day, each year.
Indy 500 was inaugurated in 1911 and it has since become the highlight of many motorsport fans’ year. In 2019, Frenchman Simon Pagenaud of Team Penske was successful in the race for the first time in his career.
Isle of Man TT
First run in 1907, the Isle of Man TT is one of the oldest major motorsport races. It remains one of the most thrilling to watch as it offers a huge challenge for those taking part.
The Mountain Course is 37.73-miles-long and is carved out on the public roads of the island. Those who attend each year create a fantastic atmosphere across the whole festival.
There is a total of 264 corners in the race and competitors have to negotiate from sea-level up to 1,300ft. At certain points of the race, riders hit an incredible 200mph on their bikes.
Monaco Grand Prix
When it comes to prestige and glamour, the Monaco Grand Prix has both in abundance. The race is the most unique on the Formula One calendar and the one every driver dreams of winning in the sport.
The Circuit de Monaco is a narrow course which cuts across a number of streets across the Principality. The best Formula One drivers in the world cannot switch off for one second.
Lewis Hamilton won the race for the third time in 2019. He is the odds-on at 4/9 in the latest F1 odds to win the Drivers’ Championship in 2020. He will be hoping to pick up maximum points in Monaco once again in his bid to defend his world title.
Le Mans 24 Hours
When it comes to endurance, Le Mans 24 Hours stands out above anything else. The winner of the race is the car which completes the longer distance across a 24-hour period around the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France.
Tactics are very important in the Le Mans 24 Hours as the teams must get the right balance between speed and protecting their car from a mechanical failure, which would of course ruin their chances of success.
Toyota, with Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima in their team, were victorious in 2019 with 385 laps of the circuit.
If you haven’t seen any of the above four races before, look out for the next edition of the respective events as they really are great spectacles.
