As electric vehicles are set to become more and more prevalent in the next few years, it’s well worth reading about which cities and regions in the UK are electric vehicle friendly. As well as which cities and regions need to strive to become more electric vehicle friendly.
The UKs transport industry and which areas of the UK are currently most Electric vehicle friendly:
London:
London is one of the most prepared cities in the UK for electric vehicles. Especially as it boasts the greatest number of public charging stations in the UK. Per 100,000 individuals, London offers 57.8 public charging stations. This figure is more than double the national average of available public charging stations. In comparison, the next highest-ranked region the North East offers approximately 30.6 charging stations per 100,000. Currently, London is definitely the number one EV-friendly region in the United Kingdom.
The South East:
The South East is also well prepared for electric vehicles and features the fastest charging public charging stations, which are referred to as rapid charging stations. Rapid charging stations are user friendly as they are capable of charging electric vehicles in a fraction of the time as regular EV charging stations.
The West Midlands:
The West Midlands is also considered a relatively EV friendly region as per 100,000 residents it currently has 716 licenced plug-in cars. This is surprisingly a higher statistic than London, which only has 416 licenced plug-in cars per 100,000 residents. This shows that residents in The West Midlands are far more likely to purchase an electric vehicle, than the residents of any other region in the UK. This is surprising as the West Midlands was once considered the epi-centre of the United Kingdom’s car manufacturing industry.
Regions in the UK that are currently not EV friendly:
East England:
East England is definitely not EV friendly as it currently has the fewest number of public EV charging stations. To date, East England only offers 20 EV charging stations per 100,000 individuals. Which is a disappointing statistic. Worse yet, East England only offers 4.3 rapid charging stations, per 100,000 individuals. If you’re curious about how many individuals own an EV car in East England, currently there are only 316 electric vehicles registered per 100,000 cars. Another disappointing statistic.
The North West:
The North West is currently rated the least EV friendly region in the United Kingdom and only has 176 registered EV vehicles per 100,000 individuals. Furthermore, the North West only has 20.2 public charging stations per 100,000 individuals. Which makes finding a public charging station in the North West, an extremely difficult task. If you’re curious about how many rapid charging stations the North West offers, it currently offers 4.07 rapid charging stations per 100,000 people.
In conclusion, the three regions in the United Kingdom which are most EV friendly include London, the South East and the West Midlands. All of which have taken steps to ensure that they are as user friendly for new electric vehicle owners.
