For most of us when we picture the perfect road trip, we tend to think of packing up a Land Rover and heading out into the great unknown to see what the world holds for us. For many others, though, the perfect trip involves getting on a motorcycle and driving out into the sunset without a care in the world. The latter is a dream that countless people have, but realising it can be sometimes be scary, forcing us to often shy away.
For those of us who have been on the fence about going out on a bike, here are a few good reasons why it’s a good idea and why it’s worth doing.
1. Going Minimalist
Travelling long term on a bike isn’t perfect. It means that a lot of items may have to be left behind, there won’t always be the necessary tools on hand to fix a mechanic problem, and it means being very limited in the amount of stuff that can be carried. But this is also a great opportunity to practice minimalism, which has become extremely popular in recent years, and can have a myriad of mental health benefits.
2. The Freedom
Travelling by car doesn’t allow the traveller to get very far; they will often be restricted to places where a motorcycle would otherwise be able to enter without a problem. The freedom a two-wheeler can often in terms of places it can take you is second to none.
3. Similar Travellers
There’s an unspoken rule among bikers to treat one another with respect, and it’s a rule that can be found throughout the world. And it also provides endless opportunities to meet people that are like-minded; people that love to travel, love to see new things and have new experiences, as well as a deep love of motorcycles. Travel is one of the great pleasures in this life, and it’s almost always better on the back of a bike.
4. The Immersive Experience
Travelling in the comfort of a car or a bus means never really being a part of the surrounding environment, and it can truly take away from the overall experience. Being on a motorcycle, though, means being right there in front of everything, allowing you to see all the beauty of the cities, towns, and nature that you’re driving through, It creates an experience that can only be described as immersive; and one that’s almost impossible to replicate without two wheels.
5. The Cool Factor
There’s no denying that a person riding a motorbike is inherently cool, and it’s this “coolness” that can enhance the experience of being on a bike. From little boys being totally absorbed by the entire look, to random strangers checking you out as you cruise by, bikes make everything cooler, no matter which part of the country you’re in, or what you’re doing on the road, whether to travel or find where to play.
Travelling by motorcycle is an experience that just can’t be replicated any other way, and it’s worth doing at least once in your lifetime.
