When it comes to speed, nothing can quite keep up with a modern superbike. Built to go in a straight line as fast as physically possible, these are machines that are almost without equal, with even the fastest cars around almost never being able to match the speed of a superbike.
While they’re completely impractical for everyday use and aren’t used in races that often due to how dangerous they can be, these are technical achievements in the biking world, a show of just how fast we can make a two-wheeler.
Suzuki Hayabusa
Hayabusa is the Japanese name for the peregrine falcon, which makes it apt for this bike, which is able to attain the same kind of speeds as small planes. With a top speed of around 312 km/h on a straight, the Hayabusa is a legend among other superbikes, and the fastest bike that Suzuki has ever made. With a 16 valve, 1340cc engine, it’s little wonder as to why the bike is able to achieve such incredible speeds.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R
The Ninja, much like the Hayabusa, has become a favourite among superbike fans, or those who love all kinds of racing. Its sleek design and dazzling top speeds, which maxes out at 334km/h, leaving the former entry very much in the dust are part of its appeal. Able to get to 100km/h in just 2.7 seconds, there are few other man-made vehicles that can match acceleration or top speed with this marvel, which is powered by a 1441cc four valve motor that’s liquid cooled. This almost the leader of the Ninja series, one that has long been at the forefront of the world’s fastest bikes.
Kawasaki Ninja H2R
When we’re talking about the leader of the Ninja series, the H2R comes out at top – in fact, this is the fastest commercial superbike in the world right now, and one that doesn’t look to be surpassed any time soon. Thanks to its supercharged 998cc DOHC inline-4 engine, the H2R is capable of maxing out at a top speed of 400km/h in a straight line, with only the Bugatti Chiron being just about the only land vehicle that could keep up in a drag race, and it’s certainly not a bike that’s out to play fun games when it comes to top speeds Along with being a true looker of a bike, the H2R represents the best engineering in the bike world at the moment, every inch of it designed with the greatest precision possible.
Dodge Tomahawk
No list about superbikes would be complete without the legendary Dodge Tomahawk, a bike so unique and powerful that nothing even comes close to its top speed in a straight line. Its aesthetics are straight out of a science fiction film, where it looks like nothing more than a massive engine with two wheels and a handlebar attached to it, because that’s almost precisely what it is. The Tomahawk can reach 675km/h, outpacing even Suzuki’s very best efforts without even breaking a sweat. This is a bike that was designed simply to see how fast a two-wheeler could go, and now we have the definitive answer.
