Getting a Bike Ready For Travel

Packing up a bag and heading out the front gate is perfectly fine for a small day trip to the beach or the next town over, but for longer, more arduous trips, preparation is everything. This may be especially true for anyone that owns a motorcycle, as it can mean that you will need to take a few extra precautions that other drivers wouldn’t even think of when getting ready for their own trips. The road is open for you to create lasting memories and personal stories like the ones shared on John Doe.

Spending a few hours getting ready for your next long road trip is worth every second, as it means you get to spend more time on your bike without having to worry about things going wrong. Here is a simple guide to preparing your motorbike for the next big adventure.

1. Get A Full Service

A full service entails a few different things, from having all of the filters replace, to getting all the fluids drained and topped up, among other things. This is also a great opportunity for either you or your mechanic to check if there are any problems with the bike: bad breaks, engine troubles, leaks, or anything of the sort. It also means a ton of headaches avoided while on the way, It drastically reduces the chances of breaking down unexpectedly, while also ensuring the bike is as fuel efficient as possible.

2. Choose a Navigation System

Today, most people use two different kinds of navigation to get around: their phone map service, or a GPS device. Both tend to offer the same services, but it makes much more sense to instead just focus on the phone: it already comes packed with endless features and can easily be mounted to most parts of the bike. Having a GPS might be a better option if you are the kind of person that really likes to go off of the beaten track – where often even services like Google Maps can’t be too much help, so having a dedicated GPS navigation system might be worth investing in, although a GPS doesn’t allow you to answer emails or have games you can play now. A lot of experienced bikers will suggest always having a paper map on hand; this may seem slightly old school, but it can be a huge help when the phone battery runs flat.

3. Pack With a List

Packing is the next big step to take, but it’s important to first take the time to plan exactly what’s going to be going with. This may mean making a checklist of everything that’s needed and making sure that it’s all packed before heading out. Having a list like this can also help while out on the road, providing peace of mind that you’ve got all the items that you left home with.

4. Do Some Research

It’s generally a good idea to do some research on an area that you’ve never visited before. With the power of the internet at hand, it’s now easier than ever to do thorough research on a particular place. This can include things like the crime rate, the kind of attractions in the area, the best places to eat and sleep, and so much more.
