Experience: 2018 SDA Rd 3 Innerleithen

With the weekend of June 16-17th seeing a real bonanza of biking going on around the UK, there was one standout race a bit different to the others – a regional DH race with a mellow vibe, awesome riders and a classic track.

The entries were modest at 162, but this meant more time on track for the hardcore few, or those looking to get into DH in a more chilled environment.

Testament to how good these races are saw Reece Wilson, on the march to biking global superstardom  back to race on his home turf. He would have to beat pinners George Gannicot, Lachlan Blair and Youtube sensation, King of the SDA series Ben Cathro as well.

There were also 58 riders, both male and female, here under the age of 18, and that can only bode well . Young rippers were tearing apart the hill all weekend, but special mention must go to William Brodie , who with a 3.29 set a time that would have been respectable in any of the senior categories bar Elite. One to watch out for!

It was also great to see victories for Mikayla Parton, Luke Birkett, Ryan Brannen and the two elder #dhornowt crew boys Pete Walton and former boy racer Markey Neal.

Ian Linton was there to capture the bangers, while Miles Mallinson flung his video camera around for us.

Read on for more with these bangers from Ian Linton.

“Black eye Reece” Fresh back from World Cup exploits and back to winning ways.
Calum Macbain, in the zone or waaaat! Hungry for it!
Cathro went down, which is unusual these days. He finished last, but I bet he gets more views than you from finishing last. Remember kids, views + media = sponsorship!  (Cathro is also a side and beast on a bike, which helps too!)
Junior winner Luke Burkitt on a flyer.

DHorNowt Pete Walton delivers that long overdue win. Go on Wally.
Marky Neal along with Beast from the North East Pete Walton repping the Loose riders north east Jerseys and both winning their categories.
Not sleeping this weekend, but still busting out moves for the lease. Rendall having the time of his life . Boss.

Out of retirement , or a weekend off from racing his quad or MX bike, Big Bad Brad took the senior win.
Winer winner chicken dinner for Mikky P, smashing the women senior category!
New uplift – less adrenaline than before, but now saved for the downs instead of the ups! See what I did there…..
Phoebe Gale sending the jumps towards the bottom – great to see these young ladies flying! Phoebe’s time would have placed her second in senior. Nae bad!
Elite male podium – Wilson, Gannicot, Blair. You ever heard the joke about a Mexican, Borders boy and Bearded woodsman?
Youth winner Ryan Brannen .
William Brodie on an absolute flyer – his time of 3.29 would have podium’d in most categories.
